Here’s the most important thing to really tap into your full potential.
And no, it’s not a new superfood or a workout technique.
This one’s literally in your mind, and your hormones.
But first, let me ask you…
Have you ever walked into a cafe somewhere that although it looked the part – funky art on the walls, Instagram worthy food snaps, colour matched tables and chairs – but it just didn’t FEEL right? For some unexplainable reason, you just didn’t feel comfortable there.
What about the opposite?
When you’ve walked into a shabby little cafe – a bit disarrayed and frayed around the edges perhaps – but it just felt GOOD. You instantly let out a sigh of relief. You could relax there. This is where you wanted to be. You were at home.
Because how a place feels is way more important than how it looks. What makes a temple a temple is not it’s physical shape or fittings, but the sacredness it holds.
And babes, your body is a temple. How it FEELS is so much more important that how it looks.
Let’s just pause for a moment and really drink that in.
How you feel is more important than how you look.
And if worrying about how you look is making you feel like dirt, it might be time to check your priorities.
‘Cause whilst our new culture of healthy eating and fitness has the potential to make us feel great, somewhere along the lines it has become another way to body shame and make us feel like we’re not enough.
And the irony in that? Worrying about how you look to the extreme is going to make you look and feel like crap.
Yep. And I’m not talking about some magic, abstract woo woo stuff here.
I’m speaking about your actual biology. Yep, your hormones.
How your FEEL about yourself, the way you speak to yourself (or tear yourself down) directly influences the chemicals your brain releases.
Negative self talk, body self-shaming, comparison, judgement… These not so nourishing thoughts create a flow on effect that boosts cortisol in your body – the hormone that in excess affects literally every single process and organ in your body.
And not in a good way.
From fertility issues and painful periods to high blood pressure and an increased risk of cancer, cortisol wreaks havoc on the body.
Self-lovin’ thoughts on the other hand will make you feel good from the inside out. Appreciation, positive self talk, self-compassion, praise – these practices lower cortisol, boost oxytocin and will improve just about every area of your life.
From combatting depression and improving your physical wellbeing to increasing your productivity and performance, positive self-talk is where it’s at.
Which brings me right back to your exercise routine.
Perhaps driving yourself to complete exhaustion at the gym, comparing yourself to that super flexible woman on the yoga mat beside you, or juice cleansing desperately to fit into a size 10 instead of a 12 just isn’t worth it.
What would our world look like if we stopped caring what we looked like and started focusing on how we feel?
That’s the real feminine revolution, and it starts with a decision to prioritise our soul.
I’m not saying how you look has no impact on how you feel. Believe me, I get it.
In fact getting dressed up in my favourite active wear and looking fab as I head to the gym actually makes me FEEL great.
So yes, spending time and care on the way you look can be a huge gift to yourself.
But if your fitspo lifestyle or your new active wear is just another way to beat yourself up or talk smack to yourself, maybe it’s time to rethink your approach.
Let your heart and soul be your guide, and follow what makes you feel good.
THAT’S how you move with purpose and become the most radiant, magnetic woman you can be.
